The Kiwanis of Chesterfield has sponsored several programs over the years, each selectively chosen to benefit the children of our community.
|
is the nation's largest independent bereavement camp, located in the Richmond, Virginia, metropolitan area. Currently, camps are offered in Virginia and the New York Metropolitan area for grieving children from across the country, suffering from the loss of a parent, sibling, or primary care giver, regarldess of when the passing occurred. One of the most difficult parts of grieving as a child, is the feeling of loneliness. After spending a weekend at Camp, campers realize they are not alone - there are many others who will face |
the same milestones without a parent and who understand the awkward silences of friends. |
Comfort Zone Camp® is a 501c3 non-profit organization. It costs $700 to sponsor one child for the weekend or $25,000 to fund the entire camp. The Kiwanis of Chesterfield has devoted its resources to the Comfort Zone Camp in an effort to ensure that every child has a place. The proceeds of this year's Kiwanis Golf Tournament will benefit the Comfort Zone Camp in addition to other causes.

The Kiwanis Family Resource Room Project was undertaken in 2005 by the 21 Kiwanis clubs in the Heart of Virginia Region of the Capital District. The Family Resource Room project was designed for the Virginia Commonwealth University's Children's Medical Center, to help provide patients and their families a comfortable "home away from home" setting while visiting the hospital for long periods of time. The Children's Medical Center is a full-service, pediatric health care facility dedicated to improving child health through research, education and state-of-the-art clinic care.
The goal of the region was to raise the $100,000 necessary to fund building the facility over a three year period. As our part of the pledge, the Kiwanis of Chesterfield donated $3000 in 2005 and then an additional $1800 in 2006. The funds were raised by the region a year ahead of schedule and the room was dedicated by Kiwanis International President Steve Seimens in September of 2006.
